Dr. Neal Uitvlugt
It was wonderful to see Dr. Neal today... he was great!!!! After all the "drama" of my lovely HMO insurance refusing to authorize the visit and the paperwork I completed to file an appeal/grievance, as well as the letter my pediatrician sent to my insurance, we still had to write a check to pay for today's appointment, but I am hopeful we will be reimbursed and this will be authorized (I am prepared to take this to the State Insurance Commissioner). For those of you who are not aware, my insurance said that because there was an "in-network" provider within 60 miles that I would need to go to that pediatric surgeon and not the one my doctor referred me to... oh I didn't mention that this particular "in-network" doctor is in KALAMAZOO.... Please, for the record k-zoo is more than 60 miles from my home and I can assure you Blue Care Network is well aware of this now! (BCN-Insurance has no idea who they are up-against LOL) So anyway, Dr. Neal did the once over on Hudson and said he is definitely a surgical candidate and at risk for developing a hernia since his hydrocele is "communicating", which essentially means right now fluid is flowing back and forth "thru a little hole" and when he lays down it is less "filled" and when he is up and running, it gets larger. Dr. Neal feels that there are pros and cons having the surgery at 2 years of age, but would like to "watch it" since Hudson does not seem to be in pain and has not had any bowel issues. He wants us to be on the "lookout" for anything changing, so here we are always "checking out his stuff". Dr. Neal also said that Hudson is definitely at risk for developing a hernia, it is just a question of "when?"... so we WAIT.. isn't that what life is about.. it is a good lesson for me because I am such an "instant gratification" gal, my motto has been DO IT NOW! :)... Children teach us SOOOO much!

I am so glad that everything turned out okay.......I knew it would! You are right - I thought we were supposed to be teaching these kids - but they teach me something everyday!!!!!
I'm glad that he doesn't need surgery at this time. Maybe, by some miracle, this will all heal and no surgery will be needed. That would be awesome.
How do you pronouce THAT last name???? I think you should stick to Dr. Neal too!!
Anyway, I hope Hudsy doesn't feel too violated in the upcoming days/months!! And we will be keeping him in our prayers!!!
