It is with much sadness that I share that on Monday night, Mike's Grandma (a.k.a. "Great Grammy") has passed away from pancreatic cancer. Cambell was pretty tearful before bed on Monday and wanted to clench the very special blanket, which she calls her "Great Grammy Blanket" until she fell asleep... this is the 1st true experience my kids have had with death, other than our Gordon Setter, Shasu, last fall, which surprisingly Cambell still talks about him as if he is part of our family, but just lives in Heaven. We told her that Great Grammy would be up there now taking care of Shasu which seemed to help put her at ease, of course Hudson has not truly grasped the concept... one regret is that when we went to Blodgett to visit her when she was diagnosed (about 3 weeks ago & then sent home with Hospice) is that we did not bring our camera, she was in great spirits and was so proud to have her grandson and wife come with her great grandchildren (2 of the over 20 great grandchildren she has) to visit, she was telling the nurse all about our family and even played peek-a-boo with Hudson as he hid behind the curtain and Cambell drew her a beautiful sunshine and smile face in a get well card and she was so intent explaining the picture to her Great Grammy. Each kid handed her a picture of them self, that we had just had done, so in such wonderful "great grandma fashion" she was eager to get home and put them with the others... Tomorrow is her funeral and I told Cambell we would be "celebrating her life" (the kids are not going to the funeral or visitation, but will go to Mike's parents afterwards for the "party"/get together)... We love you Great Grandma Conley, and you will be missed tremendously... BIG HUGS!
